Marvel Should Introduce Brother Voodoo

and Haitian Culture to the MCU!

A Reddit post recently caught our attention, and we found it fascinating for multiple reasons. Not only did it discuss the potential for Brother Voodoo (Jericho Drumm) to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also mentioned our very own co-founder, Jimmy C. Jules. Seeing his name in the conversation about casting for such an important role made us want to dive deeper into why Brother Voodoo’s introduction to the MCU would be a game-changer.

With Marvel expanding its supernatural universe through projects like Blade, Doctor Strange, and Werewolf by Night, Brother Voodoo feels like a natural addition. His story is deeply rooted in Haitian culture, spirituality, and mysticism. Unlike the usual portrayals of magic in the MCU, his abilities are tied to Voodoo, a belief system with African, Catholic, and indigenous influences. Unfortunately, Hollywood has often misrepresented Voodoo, reducing it to horror tropes rather than acknowledging it as a legitimate and complex spiritual practice.

Now, let’s talk about the Reddit post that sparked this discussion specifically mentioned Jimmy C. Jules as a great casting choice for Brother Voodoo, and we couldn’t agree more. As an actor, writer, and director, Jimmy has been building a career exploring supernatural themes, mysticism, and deep-rooted spiritual traditions. His work in Gone Home, The Presence, Writer’s Block, About Amelia, and Bad Voodoo has proven his ability to bring depth and authenticity to characters dealing with the unknown. He’s also set to play a houngan (Voodoo priest) in an upcoming project, which means he’s already immersed in the kind of world that defines Brother Voodoo.

Marvel has a history of casting lesser-known actors who later become household names. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Anthony Mackie all started out as fresh faces before becoming major stars. Jimmy C. Jules fits that mold perfectly. He has the talent, the presence, and the cultural understanding to bring Brother Voodoo to life in a way that no one else could.

Brother Voodoo has often been compared to Marvel’s answer to John Constantine, a hero who operates in the shadows and confronts supernatural threats beyond the scope of traditional heroes. But what sets him apart is that his story isn’t just fiction. It’s grounded in real beliefs, real traditions, and a culture that has shaped millions of lives.

The time for Brother Voodoo is now. Hollywood is finally beginning to embrace authentic representation, and Marvel has an opportunity to introduce a character who is powerful, unique, and deeply connected to a rich history. If they are serious about expanding the MCU with fresh perspectives and diverse stories, this is the perfect way to do it.
